With great pleasure, the Newcastle Muslim Association announces the purchase of a land at Elermore Vale for building a new mosque (Alhamdulillah). It is located at less than 5 minutes drive from the existing mosque, nearly opposite the exit of the shopping centre with Bi-Lo. The total cost of the huge 8800 m² block of land is costing  $1.45 million. In addition, the construction of the mosque and associated facilities will cost in excess of another $5 million.

The Muslim population in Newcastle has been growing significantly in the last five years. The current Muslim population is a mix of Asian, African, Middle Eastern, European and Anglo-Saxon origin. Influx of overseas Muslim students from Middle East and different Asian countries coming to Newcastle University and TAFE has been also contributing in this changing demography. Recently a good number of African Muslims also migrated to Australia as refugees and Newcastle also had its share of the Muslim refugees.

Lately, as you are aware, with the increased population, the existing mosque cannot accommodate all those attending prayers. The space is totally inadequate and the adjacent Masonic Hall is hired as a makeshift arrangement on regular basis. We are also experiencing major difficulty with parking and in recent times this has caused a negative impact on the surrounding neighbourhood. So the Association thought of extending the existing building. Initial discussion with the Newcastle City Council’s Planning Department indicated that any Development Application for extension would raise a wide range of planning issues with parking being the most difficult one to get through. Chances of any Development Application for extension to be approved by the council seemed to be almost nil. So the Association had no choice but to decide on relocating the mosque with adequate parking of its own. By the grace of Allah, after almost one year of relentless effort, the Association, finally, was able to purchase a block of land in a suitable location close to the existing mosque.

Hence, the executive committee of Newcastle Muslim Association, in the name of Allah, ask for your help in realising the dreams of Muslims in Newcastle and the Hunter Region to have a mosque big enough to accommodate their needs. Any donation, whatever amount, will help in building the mosque. So please donate in the name of Allah & for the sake of Allah.

Allah SWT said” The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah as the likeness of a grain(of corn), it grows seven ears and each ears has a hundred grains. Allah gives manifold increase to whom he wills, and Allah is All-Sufficient for his creatures needs, All Knower“. 2-261
